Chelsea star Cole Palmer review Five best moments he had so far as Chelsea star takes the Premier League by storm

Cole Palmer is the new poster boy at Chelsea proving this season he’s destined for the very top.

Despite an indifferent campaign for Chelsea in general, the debut year of Cole Palmer at Stamford Bridge is turning into something quite memorable.

The 21-year-old attacker cost an initial £40 million to sign from Manchester City last summer (Sky Sports), which in hindsight looks like an absolute steal.

Speaking via FIVE’s YouTube channel last week, Rio Ferdinand insists he’s already seen enough from Palmer to think he can become a “top player”.

We agree the sky is the limit for the creative playmaker. Here’s a rundown of the best five moments from Palmer’s season so far.

Ice in his veins with 95th minute penalty
Chelsea and Man City played out a remarkable 4-4 draw at Stamford Bridge on 12 November in the Premier League.

Palmer was already under the spotlight going into the fixture against his former club, so to equalise with a 95th minute penalty kick and earn his new side a draw tells you everything you need to know about his character.

What we love about the 21-year-old is he never goes hiding. In fact, he thrives under pressure and put himself in the tense scenario against his old teammates.

Speaking via The Evening Standard after the game, Raheem Sterling applauded Chelsea teammate Palmer for the quality of his penalty against Man City.

Senior England debut
Following a blistering start in the opening months of his Chelsea career, Palmer was rewarded with his senior debut for England back on 17 November. He came off the bench in a 2-0 win against Malta.

Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate handed the Blues star the first of his two England caps so far. We’re expecting more to follow in this current international break.

It’s a landmark moment in any player’s career to represent their country for the first time at senior level.

According to Miguel Delaney’s newsletter in November, Palmer immediately made a good impression when he started working alongside the England seniors.

Best goal in a Chelsea shirt
Palmer’s scored 14 goals in 34 Blues appearances so far, but the best of the bunch came on 30 December in the league against Luton Town.

He scored twice in the 3-2 away victory over Luton. His second was a thing of beauty, though.

The super talented maestro dribbled past the goalkeeper at full speed before slowing himself down and showing ultra composure to finish when there were three defenders around him in a crowded box.

Middlesbrough redemption
It’s been near-faultless so far from Palmer in a Chelsea shirt, but his exceptionally high level did dip when he failed to wear his shooting boots against Middlesbrough.

The right-winger had one of his poorest days in a 1-0 loss to Championship club Boro in the first leg of a Carabao Cup semi-final on 9 January. It’s a testament to his drive and talent how he responded during the second leg two weeks later.

Chelsea thrashed Boro 6-0 in the second leg at Stamford Bridge, with Palmer scoring two goals himself and writing the wrongs of the first leg.

Backheeled assist on Sunday
Finally, Palmer’s 12th assist of the season from the weekend deserves a special mention.

The Blues beat Leicester City 4-2 on Sunday in the FA Cup quarter-final, but it took until stoppage time to win the tie.

In classic Palmer fashion, he produced a deft flicked pass in the box to assist Carney Chukwuemeka’s goal to make it 3-2.

Speaking via BBC Sport (2:58pm) after the cup win, Chukwuemeka applauded “amazing” teammate Palmer for his genius assist.
