Christopher Nkunku sends two-word message to Chelsea fans ahead of Manchester City clash

Christopher Nkunku arrived at Chelsea from RB Leipzig in the summer in a £52m deal (BBC Sport), but he is yet to play a game for the Blues after picking up a knee injury at the end of pre-season.

However, a recent post on the Frenchman’s Instagram suggests he could be back soon.

Nkunku shared some pictures of him in the gym with the caption “getting closer”.

Nkunku will not feature against Manchester City on Sunday, though, with Chelsea not wanting to take any risks with the 25-year-old.

Who could Christopher Nkunku make his competitive debut against?
While Nkunku will not be ready for the City game, he could make his Chelsea debut against their rivals Manchester United after the international break.

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea’s plan is to have him back for beginning of December, so he could end up making his bow in blue against United or Brighton & Hove Albion.

Whenever he returns, it will be a huge boost for Mauricio Pochettino. Nkunku has shown in the last couple of seasons that he is one of the best forwards in Europe.

In the last campaign, the France international scored 23 goals in all competitions, while in the one prior, he registered 35. It is no surprise that Chelsea decided to spend more than £50m on him.

Until Nkunku’s return, though, the Blues are going to have to continue relying on the likes of Nicolas Jackson and Cole Palmer.

The former bagged a hat-trick last time out against Tottenham Hotspur, while the latter also managed to get his name on the scoresheet after dispatching his third penalty of the season.

Palmer faces his old side City at Stamford Bridge next and Pochettino will be hoping for more goals from the 21-year-old and Jackson
