Frank Lampard, the former Chelsea legend and coach, has clarified why he did not include John Terry in his coaching staff during his two managerial stints at Chelsea.

Lampard managed Chelsea first from 2019 to 2021, and later, in the previous season, when he took over as caretaker manager after Graham Potter’s dismissal.

Explaining his decision to not bring in former teammate Terry as part of his coaching staff, Lampard discussed it on John Obi Mikel’s Obi One podcast, emphasizing his immense respect for Terry on all fronts. However, he made it clear that the club’s decision to include John Terry was not his to answer.

Regarding his own situation, Lampard stated that the club approached him quickly, giving him only about a day to make a decision.

They requested that he bring in two staff members, and anyone familiar with the inner workings of the game understands that selecting staff is a significant decision. Lampard had prior experience working with his staff at Chelsea, Derby, and Everton. He ended up bringing in three staff members, with Ashley Cole coming on board to handle set pieces at Everton.

The individuals he chose to work with were Chris Jones and Joe Edwards, leaving no room for additional changes.
