‘Very similar’: Joleon Lescott likens ‘spectacular’ £43m Man City player to David Silva after Bournemouth rout
Joleon Lescott likened Bernardo Silva to Manchester City legend David Silva, following another fine display from the Portuguese in the 6-1 win over Bournemouth.
City went top of the Premier League yesterday following a thumping win over the Cherries at the Etihad, in which Jeremy Doku starred.
The Belgian was at the heart of everything for the hosts, making four assists and scoring one himself.
Bournemouth kept City at bay for half an hour before Doku broke the deadlock after a brilliant one-two with Rodri. He then set up Bernardo, before firing a shot in off Manuel Akanji to give City a 3-0 half-time lead.
Doku then played in Phil Foden to make it four, and found Bernardo again for City’s fifth. That goal, which Pep Guardiola said was like something from Lionel Messi, was perhaps the best of the game.
Oscar Bobb then found Nathan Ake with a great cross for a sixth late on.
Bernardo’s second goal was absolutely outstanding yesterday. It was certainly something you would see from Messi.
The little feint to get past the last defender before the chipped finish was just glorious. And it capped off another fine display by the 29-year-old.
But his whole performance was just superb. And Lescott paid him the ultimate compliment by likening him to City legend David Silva.
He said on City’s Matchday Live show: “There is a level of composure. Players that see the game at their speed and he’s definitely one of them. David Silva was someone very similar. You can play the game at a certain speed and tempo. But they are just so far advanced.”
The performance from Bernardo against Bournemouth followed his fabulous display against Manchester United last weekend. The star was hailed by a number of pundits after that game, with Gary Neville calling him ‘spectacular’.
Bernardo is indeed like David Silva
At this point, it is not unfair to liken Bernardo to City legend David Silva. Because the technical quality is just extraordinary.
Bernardo is simply an amazing footballer to watch, as he does all facets of the game to the highest standard.
For many City fans, David Silva is the greatest player to ever wear the shirt. Arguably, he is the purest footballer the club has ever had.
Bernardo is not too far off the Spaniard in terms of ability now. He is that good, and it would certainly be interesting to compare him against David in a few years.
But the feeling for a lot of City fans is that this could be Bernardo’s final season at the Etihad, given there has been more talk of him leaving
