“You fail to him” – Joe Cole questions why Chelsea just couldn’t get the best out of 30-year-old

Joe Cole questions why Chelsea just couldn’t get the best out of 30-year-old

Joe Cole has now questioned why Chelsea were unable to get the best out Romelu Lukaku during his time at the club.

He told TNT Sports that there is perhaps a deeper issue at Stamford Bridge after seeing the 30-year-old’s start to life at Roma.

Lukaku is currently sat on eight goals in all competitions so far this season for the Serie A side.

His return to Inter Milan last night saw him get a hostile reaction, after he did not come back to the San Siro this season.

While he is back amongst the goals in Italy, Chelsea are left ruing their own missed opportunities in front of goals as they lost at home again.

This time, it was a 2-0 defeat to Brentford that saw Stamford Bridge become a cauldron of boos at full-time.

Cole questions why Lukaku didn’t work out
After the game, Cole questioned why Lukaku was not the answer in front of goal for them.

He said: “With Romelu Lukaku, for all of his faults, he was in the door. He was a success at Inter Milan, he scored goals at Everton and West Brom in this country, why couldn’t he score goals at Chelsea? What was wrong [with him]?

“He is scoring goals now for Roma. So we have to look within ourselves, what is wrong with this club at the moment? I don’t blame the manager one bit. Him and his staff are doing everything they can and I don’t even blame the players. They are all top players.”

Supporters made it clear that they were not particularly pleased with Nicolas Jackson’s performance up front at the weekend.

While targeting individual players is never the answer, it is a sign that the feeling at Chelsea about the striker situation is not positive right now.
