Manchester United have been handed a big blow in the pursuit of Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, according to reputed journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.
Earlier today, David Ornstein confirmed that the Red Devils are working on a deal to sign Amrabat. He revealed that United are weighing up a loan move due to their Financial Fair Play situation.
The Morocco international has no concerns over a temporary switch, but Di Marzio has revealed that Fiorentina have no plans of considering such an offer.
The Serie A outfit have turned down all loan proposals for the 27-year-old midfielder including the one from United which was made in the ‘last few hours’.
United handed huge blow after Ambarat approach
The Red Devils are currently close to breaching the Financial Fair Play limits, and can not afford to spend big on Amrabat unless they sanction another midfield departure.
That seems unlikely to happen at the current point of time. Donny van de Beek is the most likely senior midfielder to leave United, but the club have received only one loan bid.
Scott McTominay has been linked with West Ham United for some time, but there has been no progress. The Hammers recently signed Edson Alvarez and James Ward-Prowse.
United may need to propose a loan deal with a mandatory buy clause to persuade Fiorentina into parting ways with Amrabat before Friday’s transfer deadline.
The Florence club currently want €30 million including add-ons for Amrabat, who was praised as a ‘world-class‘ player by Morocco manager Walid Regragui at the World Cup.
United should consider paying a small loan fee with an obligation to buy next summer.
Otherwise, they could risk missing out on Amrabat. Fiorentina have not ruled out keeping the midfielder this season, suppose they fail to receive suitable offers before the window closes.
Amrabat’s current deal expires in June next year, but Fiorentina can extend it for 12 months.
