“Why asking that kind of question?” – Mauricio Pochettino confused with what he was asked before Chelsea’s win

Mauricio Pochettino was left confused with what he was asked in his pre-match press conference ahead of Chelsea’s game last night.

In his interview with ITV Football, the Argentine was left bemused at a question asked to him about his decision to not start Thiago Silva last night in the FA Cup.

Pressure has mounted close to boiling point on Pochettino, however he responded in the best way possible last night.

The Blues beat Aston Villa 3-1 away from home to book their place in the fifth round of the cup, where they will face Leeds United at Stamford Bridge.

The boss made a number of changes to the side who were humbled against Wolves, with one of them being at the back.

The experienced Silva was dropped to the bench, in a week where his wife had caused a bit of a storm on social media by seeming to call out what was going on at the club.

Pochettino confused at Silva question
When asked why he made this call, Pochettino looked perplexed.

He said: “Erm… why the question?

“I am professional. I am a coach and I always pick my players based on performance and balance, and I think I understand the question but I want to be calm because I need to be professional. I am always professional and I am going to make the decision on the professional side.”

When the interviewer followed up by clarifying if that was the only reason, the manager bluntly said: “My answer was clear, no?”

Silva’s wife, Belle, had actually apologised for her statement, although it had reportedly frustrated a number of people at the club that it had happened in the first place.

As for Silva’s future in the team, he may find it hard to break back in after what was a superb defensive display last night from Axel Disasi and Benoit Badiashile.
