“Chelsea ruin my prediction” “I won’t gamble anymore” – Arsenal legend swallow his pride after predicting Chelsea will lose against Villa

John Terry has lauded Chelsea’s performance against Aston Villa on Wednesday and told his old club he wants to see “more of it”.

The Blues impressed in their FA Cup fourth round replay as they became just the third team this season to beat Unai Emery’s side at Villa Park. Conor Gallagher, Nicolas Jackson and Enzo Fernandez put Chelsea 3-0 up before Moussa Diaby added the host’s consolation goal.

Wednesday’s win in Birmingham was much-needed after Mauricio Pochettino’s side conceded four goals in their previous two fixtures. A 4-2 defeat against Wolves at Stamford Bridge followed a heavy 4-1 loss at Liverpool which left the Blues 11th in the Premier League.

Chelsea will be hoping to build on their win at Villa when they travel to struggling Crystal Palace on Monday evening. The Eagles are just five points clear of the bottom three with manager Roy Hodgson under pressure.

And former Blues skipper Terry has called on his old side to continue their momentum next week when they visit Selhurst Park. “So much better tonight The movement on and off the ball was excellent, Enzo was superb tonight. Played forward and ran forward which causes problems for defenders,” he said on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Away fans were excellent. Tough run of games coming up but I want to see more of that. @ChelseaFC”.

Pochettino’s team will be mindful of a tricky run of games over February. The Blues travel to Manchester City on Saturday, February 17 before their Carabao Cup final against Liverpool on Sunday, February 25.

The Chelsea boss though was delighted with their performance against Villa. “I’m really pleased because first of all the players were fantastic, they played really well,” he said.

“They enjoyed it and that is the most important thing. They enjoyed in the game against a team that is doing fantastic job, so difficult to beat here, I think they’re the second best team at home. Full of confidence in the top four.

“I’m really, really pleased with the performance. I think it provides us with the capacity to really believe and that we are all together. If we are all together, and we fight together, and we approach the game in the way we approach today, then I think we are able to perform this way.”
