Mikel Arteta and Edu will be hoping to get some business done in the final 72 hours of the January transfer window. The Gunners are yet to make any new signings this month with finances stretched after welcoming Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber and Kai Havertz for a combined total of just over £200million in the summer.

Injuries have significantly impacted Arteta’s squad this season with some key absences in defence resulting in a poor run of form towards the end of 2023 and start of 2024. Based on that reason, an arrival in that department was expected if a good opportunity arose with the Gunners particularly on the lookout for loan deals, as football.london reported at the start of the month.

Despite concerns over breaking FFP rules, Arsenal have remained among the chatter related to some high-profile names this month. Brentford’s Ivan Toney and Napoli star Victor Osimhen were some of the strikers linked to an Emirates Stadium switch while Martin Zubimendi was mooted once again as a midfield option.

Leicester’s Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is the latest name said to have admirers in north London, although Brighton, Brentford and Fulham are among the Premier League clubs monitoring his future. With that in mind, football.london has taken a look at the latest Arsenal transfer rumours with the January window soon to be over.

Dewsbury-Hall boost amid £25m agreement

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Dewsbury-Hall is of interest to Arsenal although Brighton are the Premier League club in talks for his signature this month. The Foxes midfielder has been an instrumental part in their rise to the top of the Championship table with nine goals and nine assists in 31 appearances.

Fulham and Brentford are other London-based clubs showing an interest however the latter have made a huge transfer decision elsewhere. The Bees are closing in on the acquisition of Antonio Nusa from Club Brugge for €30million (£25m) from right under the noses of Tottenham, who had been in negotiations for his signature which would see him loaned back to Belgium for the remainder of the season.

football.london says: “Brentford signing Nusa is a major blow for Tottenham, which will likely please Arsenal and it could yet benefit the Gunners further. That fee being used to sign Nusa likely rules them out of the race for Dewsbury-Hall which could help Arsenal in their bid to sign another new midfielder.

“The 25-year-old could be the successor to Granit Xhaka and the left eight role he thrived in last season that Arteta has been unable to find a replacement for. The England international has the discipline to contribute defensively while also getting forward and impacting the final third. Beating Brighton and Fulham to his signature may need to be a priority for the summer with it perhaps unlikely Leicester allow him to depart so close to the end of January in their bid for an immediate Premier League return.”

Partey swap deal chance

An eventual Arsenal departure for Thomas Partey looks inevitable, however it arriving in January does not appear likely,l going off the latest update. “Despite what’s being reported by some sources in Spain, I’m not aware of anything happening right now with Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey,” transfer guru Fabrizio Romano revealed via Caught Offside.

“Atletico Madrid are not interested, and Real Sociedad are not looking into it now – there’s nothing at the moment. Saudi clubs wanted him last June but Arsenal decided to keep him, so let’s see what’s going to be the strategy in the next few months, but for January, it looks very quiet.”
