Jurgen Klopp has already hinted where he might end up next having announced he will leave Liverpool at the end of the season.

Klopp announced on Friday morning he will leave Anfield this summer after nine years. During this time, the 56-year-old has managed to transform the Merseyside club, leading the Reds to their first Premier League title, the Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, FA Cup and League Cup.

Discussing his reasons for departing Anfield, Klopp said he was ‘running out of energy’. In the short term, the focus will be on leaving ‘with a bang’ with the Reds in contention to complete a quadruple.

What remains to be seen is whether he will take on a new job elsewhere. When asked about the possibility of managing Germany in the future, Klopp replied last July that it was something he would be interested in.

“The national coach job is, and would be, a great honour,” he explained. “The problem that stands in the way of the whole thing is my loyalty. I can’t just leave Liverpool now and say I’ll take over Germany for a moment. That doesn’t work, and the request isn’t there at all.

“If I’m supposed to do this at some point, then I have to be available, and I’m not that at the moment. I have a responsibility towards the club.

“It’s an interesting job. But I don’t even know today whether I’m doing something completely different after I stop at Liverpool. I would like to leave the options open.”

Julian Nagelsmann has been manager of the German national team since September 2023 but the pressure will be on him if his squad perform poorly at the upcoming home European Championships. Come the tournament, Klopp will be out of work and having spoken so highly of the national role previously, it might be a possibility if Nagelsmann departs in the summer.
