Mauricio Pochettino continues to examine his Chelsea squad, working toward an improvement on the pitch in the second half of the season. Now that the January transfer window is upon him, the dialogue with decision makers at the club is ramping up.
“We are always every day talking and assessing the squad,” he said on Friday when asked about the talks being had. “We need to take some decisions. I think I am happy with the squad I have, we are focused on trying to recover the squad we have.
“We are assessing things, if we see some possibility maybe we can do or not but at the moment we didn’t take any decision.” For Chelsea to be in such a spot is a minor miracle.
The club have done little but invest, spend and change the playing pieces around for the past 18 months and everything that Pochettino has said in the meantime has been with a view to adding immediate quality to his group. From experienced players to proven goalscorers, a smaller playing squad to less young players, he hasn’t shied away from admitting what it is he wants.
