‘He’s quick, good on the ball, and very powerful’… John Obi Mikel says about 23-year-old striker who Chelsea want to sign

Chelsea legend John Obi Mikel has been speaking about Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface after inviting him onto his podcast.

Victor Boniface has been in terrific form for Bayer Leverkusen this season, scoring 10 goals in 16 league appearances. He has also managed to register seven assists.

As a result, the 23-year-old has been linked with a move to Chelsea, with the Daily Mirror claiming back in November that the Blues could consider him as an alternative to Brentford’s Ivan Toney this month. He is clearly a signing John Obi Mikel would approve of, as the Nigerian had only good words to say about him on The Obi One Podcast.

Chelsea’s current first-choice striker, Nicolas Jackson, has scored seven goals in 19 league appearances.

John Obi Mikel tips Victor Boniface to become a really special player
Mikel is confident that Boniface is going to go far in the game and become a complete centre-forward.

On his countryman, the former midfielder said: “He will become a complete striker in the next couple of years. He has the physique, he is quick, good on the ball, technically very good and it’s difficult to see strikers that are that big and strong and powerful and then good on the ball as well.

“His assists as well, not just scoring goals, is something that will make this kid special, really, really special. I can’t wait to see what his journey will be in the next couple of years.”

Should Chelsea make a move for Victor Boniface this month?
It is clear that Boniface has talent when you look at his performances in the Bundesliga this term.

However, this is the first season where the Nigeria international has excelled in a top league. He is still just 23 as well, one year older than Jackson.

Right now, Mauricio Pochettino probably needs someone who has more experience and is a bit more proven than Boniface.

The January market is a tough one, though, so perhaps Chelsea will have to consider the former Union Saint-Gilloise man.
