“What to do before signing” – Football finance expert now outlines what todd Boehly will be able to do in the January transfer window

Football finance expert Kieran Maguire has now shared what Chelsea will be able to do when the transfer window opens again next month.

He told i news why the Blues will still be able to make some moves in January despite their lavish spending in the Todd Boehly era.

It has been widely ridiculed how Chelsea have been the benefactors of £1bn worth of spending since Boehly took the reins at Stamford Bridge, with them looking to set themselves up for the future.

A number of young stars have been brought in as they have looked to beat fellow elite sides to the talents of tomorrow.

However, they have not stopped making signings that are for here and now. They have smashed their transfer record in consecutive windows to sign Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo.

The current reported number one target is a striker, with the likes of Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres being top of the list.

Finance expert on Chelsea in January
Despite their big spending in the last 18 months, Maguire has claimed that their fantastic record of selling players will allow them to splash the cash again next year.

He said: “Whilst all the focus is on incomings, Chelsea have been the most successful club in the Premier League when it comes to player sales.

“Over the last decade player sale profits — which is the figure used for Financial Fair Play/Profit and Sustainability Rules calculations — were £706m, nearly twice as much as the second most successful Big Six club Liverpool at £387m, and Manchester United have only generated £133m.

“These player sales allow Chelsea some flexibility in terms of potential recruitment in the January window.”

The fee required to sign a striker is clearly not going to be small next month. A transfer for Osimhen for example will almost certainly be yet another club-record fee.

However, with them needing a step up from summer signing Nicolas Jackson, they could look to go big yet again.
