Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino does not count on Malang Sarr, and the defender is in talks to leave the club in January.

The Blues are in a terrible position now, aren’t they? They are currently 12th in the table, just six points behind Everton who’ve had 10 points deducted. Mauricio Pochettino has called for new signings in January, and there will be a few outgoings too. Sarr is likely to be one of them.

Mauricio Pochettino does not count on Chelsea’s Malang Sarr
Chelsea signed Malang Sarr on a free transfer in the summer of 2020 after his contract expired at Nice. Arsenal were also interested at the time.

The Frenchman was viewed by many as a hugely talented player in the Ligue 1 during his time there, and there was some optimism that he would grow into a top player at Chelsea.

However, after two loan spells and a total of just 21 first-team appearances for the Blues, it is clear as day that Sarr has no future at Stamford Bridge.

FootMercato claim that Mauricio Pochettino does not count on Sarr, and the French defender is now in talks with Turkish side Besiktas over a move next month.

Discussions are underway between the two parties, but as things stand, nothing is advanced just yet.

Sarr’s current contract at Chelsea does not expire until the summer of 2025, but there is no reason for either party to stick together until then.

Pochettino didn’t even know Sarr
It was only in the summer that Mauricio Pochettino joined Chelsea, so you can’t expect him to know every fringe player at the club.

Back in August this year, the Argentine was quizzed by journalists about why Malang Sarr and Jamie Cumming weren’t in Chelsea’s squad in their win against Luton Town.

Pochettino looked confused and replied, as per the Daily Mail: “Who?”

The Chelsea boss then tried to salvage the situation by saying: “Oh my goodness. I don’t know what I can tell you. I don’t know because you surprised me! It’s like you punch [me in the face] and I am like this [startled]. Because we were talking about Luton!”
