Chelsea interested in signing Premier League captain, internal talks happening

Wolverhampton Wanderers captain Max Kilman has emerged as a potential Chelsea target.

That is according to well-respected journalist Simon Phillips.

Max Kilman, 26, has developed into a very consistent Premier League defender in the last few seasons at Wolves.

Now, the English centre-back is tipped with a potential move to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea interest
Phillips has reported via his Substack on Tuesday that Chelsea do have a “firm interest” in signing Kilman after previously liking him in the past.

It is understood that there’s been internal conversations at Chelsea about the 26-year-old Wolves star.

In addition, the club really like the player’s experience and leadership.

Phillips posted: “I have been told that the firm interest remains in Kilman for this winter/summer, and his name has been coming up in internal conversations once again.”

Max Kilman a talented CB
First of all, we really like the Wolves rock in defence.

The left-footed centre-back is an exceptional passer of the ball and an authorative figure with his 6ft 4in frame.

He’s the sort of profile we don’t mind Chelsea discussing and targeting, the ready-made article in the Premier League ready to enter their prime years.

However, Chelsea’s defence certainly isn’t the position of the pitch they need to prioritise their focus on. Of course, the most obvious search should be for another striker to solve the No 9 curse.

There’s already numerous talented centre-halves on the club’s books, with Blues head coach Mauricio Pochettino still trying to work out his very best partnership.

Journalist Ryan Taylor wrote on X this week that Chelsea centre-half Trevoh Chalobah is expected to leave the club in January. His exit would still leave the squad stacked with lots of competition in the heart of defence.

We’ll be interested to see if a high-profile club is prepared to take a gamble on Kilman, who did sign a long-term contract at Molineux Stadium in the summer.
