“I know my mistakes” – Thiago Silva posts have new message for Chelsea fans after 4-1 defeat vs Newcastle

Thiago Silva has apologised to Chelsea supporters and his teammates after he made a costly mistake in the side’s 4-1 defeat at Newcastle United. The Brazilian centre-back lost possession to Joelinton with a really sloppy pass for the Magpies’ third goal of the game.

The Blues were beaten convincingly in the end by Newcastle at St. James’ Park. Alexander Isak gave the hosts an early lead on Tyneside before Raheem Sterling levelled the match with a tremendous free-kick.

That is how the sides went into the half-time break, but Newcastle were the much better team when they re-entered the pitch for the second period. Jamaal Lascelles headed the Magpies back in front on the hour-mark before Silva passed the ball to Joelinton after a mis-kick and his Brazilian countryman made no mistake as he fired past Robert Sanchez.

Silva, taking to X (formerly Twitter) has come out and issued an emotional message where he has apologised to everyone involved with the club for his role in the defeat. He said: “I’m devastated.

“It wasn’t a good day for us. I would like to apologise to everyone for the defeat, especially to my teammates who believe in me and support me every day.

“I take full responsibility. Let’s gather strength and come back stronger.”

Things got from bad to worse for Chelsea after that when captain Reece James was shown a second yellow card and sent off with just under 20 minutes remaining. James then gave the armband to Silva for the remaining stages of the match at St. James’.

Ten minutes later, Anthony Gordon wrapped up the victory for the hosts after cutting in from the left-hand side to slot the ball past Sanchez into the far corner. Chelsea lost for the first – and only – time in November on Saturday afternoon and next up for the Blues is a home match against Brighton next weekend.
