Roma now interested in two Chelsea players but Jose Mourinho not fully on board

That is according to a report from Romagiallorossa.

It claims that Roma’s sporting director Tiago Pinto is scouring the market for low-budget budget players and has identified Trevoh Chalobah and one of his team-mates as potential options.

However, it does not look like Pinto and Jose Mourinho are on the same page yet, with the same report also stating that the latter has specifically asked for Tottenham Hotspur’s Eric Dier rather than Chalobah or Malang Sarr.

Dier, who cost Spurs £4m (BBC Sport) when he joined the club from Sporting Lisbon back in 2014, is someone Ange Postecoglou may want to keep after losing Micky van de Ven to a hamstring injury. It means Mourinho may have to settle for Chalobah or Sarr.

Trevoh Chalobah and Malang Sarr likely to leave Chelsea
The expectation is that Chalobah will depart Stamford Bridge in January, which makes sense.

There is a lot of competition for a place in central defence at Chelsea right now. The 24-year-old is competing against Thiago Silva, Axel Disasi and Benoit Badiashile.

There is Levi Colwill as well, who has mostly played as a left-back this season but has also spent some time at centre-back. And when Wesley Fofana returns from injury, that is another name Chalobah is going to have to compete with.

As for Sarr, he is not in a good position either. In fact, the Frenchman has been nowhere near the first team since Mauricio Pochettino joined Chelsea.

It remains to be seen whether Chalobah or Sarr will end up at Roma. But it is clear to see that their futures are probably away from Stamford Bridge, especially Sarr’s. We think there is a good chance that both players will leave west London in January.
