“We will love to have him here” – Chelsea have now spoken to 18-year-old’s family about move to Stamford Bridge

They claim that Chelsea are interested in Assane Diao and have spoken to both the winger’s agent and family about a potential move to Stamford Bridge.

Diao is making a bit of an impact at Betis right now, scoring two goals in seven La Liga appearances.

The 18-year-old has also managed to net in the Europa League, an achievement for someone his age.

A winger for the future if Chelsea sign him
Diao is going to need at least a couple of loans if he does end up at Chelsea.

At 18, the Spain U21 international still needs to develop and will probably not be ready for the Blues’ first team. And if he is, is he going to play?

It seems unlikely, as Mauricio Pochettino already has wide options, wide options that have been performing recently.

Cole Palmer, who has been described as the “real deal” by former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie O’Hara, has spent a lot of time on the right wing. He has scored four goals in the Premier League for Chelsea this season, albeit all from the spot.

There is also Raheem Sterling, who has really come to life over Chelsea’s last couple of fixtures. The 28-year-old has a goal and an assist from his last two games against Manchester City and Tottenham.

Getting into the Chelsea team over those two will be difficult, then there is Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke, who are trying to become regular starters themselves.

Diao, then, would surely be one for the future if Chelsea did manage to bring him in next year. After a lacklustre start to the season, their wide men are finally starting to get the job done under Pochettino.
