“I will sign him againt January move as he will be on free transfer next season no matter the price tag”- Mauricio Pochettino boost in potential move for Real Madrid super talented key player worth €300m, the player is also interested in Chelsea

Todd Boehly and Mauricio Pochettino have sent Real Madrid a clear message ahead of the upcoming transfer window. Reece James has been heavily linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu for a while now as Carlo Ancelotti looks to replace Dani Carvajal at right-back.

On the road to becoming Champions League winners in 2021, Chelsea defeated Los Blancos in the semi-final and the Blues defender certainly left his mark. A year later the two sides met again in the quarter-finals and, while James was not victorious, reports from Spain suggested that Real Madrid’s scouts were impressed by his performances and noted him as a potential replacement for Carvajal one day.

Since then, James has penned a new long-term deal which keeps him at Stamford Bridge until 2028. However, following the success of Jude Bellingham, Ancelotti remains keen to get his hands on another England international.

Earlier this season, Spanish publication Sport reported that Real Madrid have not given up on their pursuit of the Cobham graduate. Despite this, the Chelsea owners, board and Pochettino all view James as ‘an important part of the project’, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The report states that the £34.9million-rated star’s focus is also on the west London outfit. When quizzed on a potential move to the Spanish capital by BBC Sport in July 2022, James replied: “I’d like to think [my future is at Stamford Bridge].

“I grew up as a Chelsea fan and you know I made my name playing for Chelsea, the club I’ve always supported but I don’t see why anything would change. I play for Chelsea now and I’m enjoying it.

“It is an exciting time. Not much changes from the players or the management’s point of view. I still want to win every competition and every game. There’s no reason why we can’t do that.”

Then, in July 2023 on The Beautiful Game podcast, James’ father revealed his stance on Real Madrid’s interest and his first thoughts on a potential move to the Santiago Bernabeu. He said: “I was just gobsmacked.

“I don’t read things anymore, because yeah, until someone rings my phone, or tells the people I work with what the deal is then you take something seriously but Reece is a top player, so I’m sure most clubs would want to sign him but right now I don’t see anything changing.”
