Chelsea have made their pitch to Brentford striker Ivan Toney.

According to journalist Simon Phillips, writing on his Substack, Chelsea have told Ivan Toney that he would be the “main guy” at the club if decides to join them next year.

The Blues are interested in signing the 27-year-old, though getting him out of the Gtech Community Stadium will be no straight forward task.

Sky Sports recently claimed that Brentford value their talisman at £100m.

It is not hard to see why the Bees value Toney so highly. He was so important for them last season, scoring 20 goals in 33 Premier League appearances.

Could Ivan Toney really become Chelsea’s main main?

Chelsea have a lot of good players, but they have not really had a talismanic figure since Eden Hazard, who left the club more than four years ago.

With that in mind, there is not much stopping Toney from coming in and being the star of Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

If he arrives for a huge fee, which you would expect, and starts banging in the goals, then he could easily end up becoming Chelsea’s main man.

There are other high-profile players at Chelsea with a lot of quality, such as the likes of Enzo Fernandez and Raheem Sterling.

But no one in their squad has really become that central figure yet, the player that everyone relies on. Toney, though, is starting to come across as a target who could become just that for the Blues.

The most important thing at the end of the day is that Chelsea sign someone who can score goals, and the England international falls into that category based on what he has shown at Brentford in the last few seasons. Ultimately, making Toney a top target is a bit of a no-brainer for the Blues.
