Chelsea now getting closer to signing £70m Manchester City target, talks have advanced

Chelsea are now getting closer to signing Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen – a player who is also a target for Manchester City.

That is according to SPORT in Spain.

So, what is the latest on Manchester City target Florian Wirtz? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?
Well, the Spanish news outlet believe Chelsea have intensified discussions with Bayer Leverkusen over a deal for the Germany international.

Talks are now advancing, and SPORT add that Chelsea still hold a strong relationship with Bayer Leverkusen following the £71m signing of Kai Havertz back in September 2020.

It comes after a separate story from SPORT claimed that Manchester City are planning to bid for Wirtz in 2024 as Pep Guardiola aims to bring a new source of creativity to the Etihad Stadium.

SPORT add that Bayer Leverkusen are likely to demand €80m (£70m) for the 20-year-old.

The Bayer Leverkusen No.10 has been in superb form so far this season, scoring five goals while also providing eight assists in just 13 appearances.

Manchester City seemingly have an alternative to Florian Wirtz if Chelsea win race
If Chelsea do end up signing Wirtz, it appears Manchester City have an alternative.

Christian Falk – Head of Football at German news outlet BILD – believes Guardiola is also keen to sign Bayern Munich No.42 Jamal Musiala.

Both the Germany international and Wirtz operate in a No.10 role behind the striker.

It feels unlikely that Guardiola would take both at the Etihad Stadium, so the feeling is that Manchester City will sign Musiala or Wirtz, rather than Musiala and Wirtz.

After all, signing both Germany internationals would be a highly expensive operation.

BILD claim that Musiala currently has a market value of £96m – coupled with Wirtz’s £70m valuation, and Manchester City would surely be stretching themselves financially if both were signed.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Guardiola attempts to bring a new No.10 to Manchester City in 2024.
