Blackburn rovers maneger drop 4 reason the caraboa cup victory will belong to them on Wednesday evening

Carter urges Blackburn to embrace underdog spirit at Chelsea

Hayden Carter has urged Blackburn Rovers’ squad to embrace the underdog mentality and cause an upset against Chelsea.

Rovers travel to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night looking to progress into round five of the competition. Having beaten Walsall, Harrogate Town and Cardiff City to get to this point, it’s by far their toughest assignment.

But having beaten Premier League opposition, West Ham and Leicester City, in both cup competitions last year, Carter wants his side to embrace the challenge and ensure they give a good account of themselves.

These are the teams you want to play against when you’re growing up, top teams at the Premier League stadiums,” he told RoversTV.

“I think we can go there with confidence, try and play our game as best as we can and to try and cause an upset.

“We saw it last season against West Ham and Leicester just what it’s all about when it comes to testing yourself against players from a higher division.

“I think it will be a good test for us and one we will all relish. The pressure’s on them. They’re in a higher division, but if we can go there and play our game then I don’t see why we can’t perform and cause an upset.”

Carter looks set to start at Stamford Bridge after being hit with a one-game suspension in the Championship. The centre-back collected his fifth yellow card of the league season against Swansea City and so will miss Sunday’s trip to Carrow Road.
