Chelsea’s wild spending under Todd Boehly over the last two transfer

windows could extend into January, with Mauricio Pochettino’s side struggling for goals so far this season

It’s safe to say Chelsea have endured something of a slowing start under new boss Mauricio Pochettino, having won just three of their opening eight Premier League games. The Blues are 11th in the table and have found the net just eleven times in total thus far.

Summer addition Nicolas Jackson has found the net three times but has also struggled to adapt at times to the demands of English football, but it’s clear the Chelsea head coach is keen to stick by his £32m man at least for now. Raheem Sterling is another who is flourishing as of late, after a dismal first season at Stamford Bridge.

But in terms of further additions, Chelsea’s current squad has seen a complete overhaul in as little as 18 months, with plenty of fond farewells bid to the likes of Cesar Azpilicueta, Jorginho and N’Golo Kante, as new owner Todd Boehly looks to rubber stamp a new era of success at the club.

It remains to be seen whether their lavish spending continues into January, but a few players have been linked with a move to west London in 2024, and we here at football.london have put together a list of stars SkyBet are currently offering odds on.

Victor Osimhen – 8/1
The Napoli frontman enjoyed a stunning 2022/23 campaign and his numbers don’t seem to be letting up as he continues to lead the line for the reigning Serie A champions this season. The 24-year-old is currently priced at 8/1 to make a move to Stamford Bridge in January, having also been linked with Manchester United and Arsenal.

With six goals in ten goals already this season, his sheer size matched with his aerial ability and electric pace make him a handful for any defender. He has already been compared with the likes of Blues legend Didier Drogba and the Nigeria international would be a shrewd addition for any European club.

Jadon Sancho – 8/1
It’s been a disappointing period in the north-west of England for Jadon Sancho, having so far failed to replicate the form we once saw over in the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund. Having been provided with ample opportunity to showcase his talents by United boss Erik ten Hag, the 23-year-old is currently locked in a dispute with the Dutchman.

SkyBet sees Barcelona as the most likely destination for Sancho to depart Old Trafford for in January, but former club Chelsea are priced at 8/1 to sign the current castaway. There is no doubting the sheer talent Sancho has at his disposal on his day, but replicating those performances have been few and far between ever since his move back to England in 2021.

After winning the 2022/23 Premier League Golden Glove award, many football fans were surprised to see David De Gea depart Manchester United in the summer, with Inter Milan shot-stopper Andre Onana brought in to replace the Spaniard. It is also a shock to some that the 32-year-old is still without a club for this season.

Pochettino has made former Brentford man Roger Sanchez his number one, but the Blues are valued at 16/1 to sign De Gea to perhaps provide some healthy competition the way of his fellow Spanish counterpart. Often criticized for his individual errors, it would be a shock to some to see the former Atletico Madrid man at Stamford Bridge, but in football, stranger things have happened
