Thiago Silva is increasingly likely to leave Chelsea this summer, Pete O’Rourke is reporting on Football Insider this afternoon.

He says that the defender, who last renewed his deal for another year back in February, won’t be sticking around after the end of this season. Silva is still an undisputed first team starter for Mauricio Pochettino, but it seems like the plan to integrate Levi Colwill to the centre back slot from the left has been accelerated by the young England star’s rapid rise.

Silva has played a lot – and played well at times – this season, but overall there’s no question he’s declined quite steeply from where he was a couple of years ago.

Keeping his experience around for the rest of the season, and perhaps phasing him out gradually through the spring, seems a sensible move, and frees up him to perhaps make a sentimental return to Brazil – or a lucrative one to Saudi Arabia.
