Cole Palmer helps Mauricio Pochettino solve tough Arsenal puzzle with ‘underrated’ Chelsea claim

Mauricio Pochettino could be without a number of key players when Chelsea lock horns with Arsenal at the weekend

Cole Palmer has claimed that Rahmeem Sterling is ‘massively underrated’, helping Mauricio Pochettino pick the perfect starting lineup to face Arsenal. Chelsea will welcome the Gunners to Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon as either side hopes to extend their unbeaten streaks.

The Blues enjoyed an impressive 4-1 win over Burnley just before the international break to secure a third successive victory across all competitions. Arsenal, however, are currently seven-games without a defeat in the Premier League this term, dropping points in draws to only Fulham and Tottenham.

In what was a potentially title-defining clash earlier this month, the north Londoners stormed past the reigning champions – Manchester City. So, the Chelsea certainly have a difficult clash on their hands and Pochettino will have to pick his best XI.

And Palmer has pointed the Blues boss in the direction of Sterling, who’s enjoyed a brilliant start to the season. The 28-year-old forward has featured eight times in the Premier League this term, recording a combined four goals and assists.

In an interview with Sky Sports on the Word Association show, Palmer heaped tremendous praise on Sterling. He said: “I think he is massively underrated as well. All the goals he scored, the assists, he has played for England in major competitions. Great player.”

Following Chelsea’s win over Burnley before the international break, Pochettino acknowledged Sterling’s immense efforts but insisted that it’s his job to play well. The 51-year-old said: “It’s his job, no? To play well. All players try to play well and today he was well.

He was involved in the goals and I am so happy for him and so happy for the team. The team was good, the performance was fantastic, they deserve the praise. So happy for them and go to the international break with a different feeling to the last.”

Fortunately for Pochettino, he will have Sterling and Palmer available for selection after admitting that a couple forward players could are doubts for the Arsenal clash. He said: “I think we need to assess now because we finished the training session late.

“We need to assess Axel Disasi, assess Nico Jackson, we need to assess also Reece. Broja is out because rotation problem in his knee but it is another knee, not the one that was the problem from the past.

“We have a few players that we need to assess to see if they’re available, if they can play, if they’re on the bench or if they’re off the list completely. Benoit can maybe be available also.”
