Ollie Watkins has been linked with Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea, and based on his performance for Unai Emery’s Aston Villa on Saturday, it is easy to understand why.

Football Transfers reported this week that Chelsea are interested in signing Ollie Watkins from Premier League rivals Aston Villa in the January transfer window.

The report claimed interest from Arsenal in Watkins as well.

Watkins is reportedly in talks with Villa over a new deal and wants £150,000 per week as salary.

Chelsea are struggling to score goals and are in desperate need of a number 9.

So, I am not surprised that the former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners are looking at Watkins.

And what the striker did on Saturday afternoon is certainly going to make Chelsea want him more.

Villa hammered Brighton and Hove Albion 6-1 at Villa Park in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Watkins scored a hat-trick.

The England international found the back of the net in the 14th, 21st and 65th minute.

The 27-year-old striker also provided an assist.

John McGinn played in the match as well for Villa, and the Scotland international has raved about Watkins.

McGinn said about Watkins on BBC Sport: “I’m delighted for him. The England manager was there, so that will cheer him up. He works really hard for the team which sometimes goes unnoticed. Today was the complete performance.”

Watkins has scored four goals and given three assists in seven Premier League matches for Villa so far this season.

The striker scored 15 goals and provided six assists in 36 league starts for the Villans last season.

The England international striker has made 116 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.

Watkins has scored 44 goals and given 16 assists in those games.
