Chelsea tried to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen during the summer transfer window.

According to the Daily Mirror, Chelsea made enquiries about Victor Osimhen, but Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis valued him at £175m at the time.

Despite the Serie A club clearly wanting to hold on to their star player, the Blues’ interest still remains if reports are to be believed.

claimed last month that Chelsea have made Osimhen their No.1 target for the next summer transfer window and are leading the race for his signature.

He was in incredible form for Napoli last season, scoring 26 goals in 32 appearances.

Chelsea’s enquiries
It is not a shock to hear that Chelsea asked the question when it came to Osimhen during the summer.

They needed a new striker with their Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang experiment not working out and Osimhen was one of the best in the world in the previous campaign.

Mauricio Pochettino had to settle for Nicolas Jackson, though, and the 22-year-old has struggled under the Argentine.

His goal against Brighton & Hove Albion in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday was just his second of the season.

Ultimately, we think Chelsea needed to sign a more proven and experienced centre-forward like Osimhen, who has been described as “phenomenal” by Italian manager Walter Mazzarri. But in the end, De Laurentiis priced the Nigerian out of a move.

After Napoli posted a TikTok video mocking Osimhen, there seems to be a bit of tension between the player and the club right now, so maybe Chelsea or another side will try and take advantage of that in the new year.
