Reports emerged yesterday that a highly popular figure as far as Chelsea fans are concerned had left the club by mutual consent.
According to Nathan Gissing, Claude Makelele has recently left his role at Stamford Bridge, where he was serving as a technical mentor.
Since Todd Boehly took over at the club, he has overseen huge changes both on and off the pitch as far as personnel goes.
The side is completely unrecognisable from just a couple of years ago, and that seems to have been echoed upstairs too.
Even club legend Frank Lampard was brutally shown the door at the back end of last season, with no offer to keep him in any real role.
Boehly lets Makelele leave
Petr Cech, who had been an important member of the board under Roman Abramovich, quickly moved on early last season as it was clear they were moving in a different direction.
Now, it seems another former star is on the move, with reports claiming that Makelele left his role earlier this month.
One criticism that is often thrown at the American is that the club has lost its sense of identity under the new regime, and the clear out of club legends behind the scenes will do little to help that.
This has been used for those on the pitch too, with Mason Mount moving this summer despite at one point it seeming like he’d go on to play for them his whole life.
There was some excitement last week when it was reported that a group that included former captain John Terry were set to make a bid to purchase a stake in the club, and this would certainly go down well with supporters to see him jump on board.
