Arsenal suffered a devastating injury blow during their 1-0 win against Everton at Goodison Park. Gabriel Martinelli had to be withdrawn with a hamstring issue moments after he had a goal ruled out following a VAR review. The Brazil international was replaced by Leandro Trossard – with the Belgian forward scoring the decisive goal later in the game.

Martinelli did appear on the bench after heading down the tunnel to receive further treatment – but the severity of his injury is still unknown. Thomas Partey, Jurrien Timber and Mohammed Elneny all remain unavailable with injury problems, with a wait on their return to action.

Next up for Arsenal is a return to the Champions League for the first time in six-years, with PSV Eindhoven their clash on Wednesday. With all of that being said, football.london has taken a look at the latest Gunners injury news.

Gabriel Martinelli
Arsenal star Gabriel Martinelli has suffered a hamstring injury during the win against Everton. The Brazilian winger looks set for a period of time on the sidelines with Champions League football returning to the Emirates Stadium this week – before the North London Derby against Tottenham next weekend.

What Mikel Arteta has said: “He [Martinelli] felt something, he felt it in his hammy [hamstring] so he will need to be assessed.”

Return date: Unknown

Mohamed Elneny
The midfielder suffered a serious knee injury in January, which sidelined him for the remainder of last season. In training pictures released by Arsenal on Wednesday, September 13, Elneny was pictured back with the squad, suggesting a return could be close.

Injury: Knee

Return date: September/October 2023.

What Mikel Arteta has said: “He has been training with us, he had a little niggle in his hamstring a few weeks ago and he is back in training now. Obviously it’s been a long-term injury, the latter stages of that rehab right now and then it’s about building momentum and game time with him.”

Thomas Partey
The Ghana FA confirmed on Saturday afternoon that Partey had sustained a groin problem during a training session on Thursday, a major blow to Arteta. It remains to be seen how long the 30-year-old will be on the sidelines for.

According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal hope Partey will be available after the October international break.

What the Ghana FA have said: “He sustained a groin injury during training on Thursday, August 31, 2023. He is currently unavailable as Club Doctors predict he’s likely to be out for a couple of weeks.”

What Mikel Arteta has said: ” He’s still a few weeks away. He’s got a muscle injury. He’s progressing well, but he’s still a few weeks away.”

Jurrien Timber

He was in attendance for the game against Man United. football.london spoke to Timber post-match where the 22-year-old was still using the aid of two crutches to move about.

Asked how he was feeling with his recovery, a swift, “good, good” was the response. He will be sorely missed, especially with the club failing to find a suitable replacement in the summer transfer window.

Injury: Knee

Return date: 2024

What Arteta has said: “Huge blow. Especially for him after just joining the club. To have the injury he has is a huge blow. We recruited him with clear intentions and what he was bringing to the team was evident, but he’s not going to be able to do it this season. We have to adapt. These things happen, unfortunately, and we have to move on.”
