Manchester United are looking at a number of options to reinforce the left back position and one of them is Marcos Alonso.

As per today’s version of Marca, the Red Devils have formally requested to sign the star from Barcelona on an initial loan.

The former Chelsea defender’s current deal at the Nou Camp will expire in the summer of 2024 and it has a release clause of £42.8million.

The famous Spanish media outlet have mentioned that Man Utd have offered Alonso a two-year contract, i.e. one year on loan and then a further year once his contract with Barca expires.

It is stated that the 32-year-old is thinking about moving to Old Trafford as the Blaugrana want to replace him with Man City star, Joao Cancelo.

As per Marca, the agreement with the Portuguese international is complete. According to The Guardian, the 29-year-old is close to joining Barcelona.

Alonso won every major prize during his time with Chelsea (apart from the League Cup) before moving to Spain.

Last season, he made 24 appearances in the La Liga winning campaign under Xavi Hernandez but only started 11 games.

This season, after warming the bench in the opening two fixtures, the 9-capped international played for full 90 minutes in the 4-3 victory over Villarreal last weekend.
