Manchester United are expected to press for the signing of Sofyan Amrabat in the final days of the summer transfer window.

It has been known for quite some time that Erik ten Hag is interested in reuniting with his former FC Utrecht midfielder. In fact, as per Fabrizio Romano, Amrabat is the top name in the club’s list of potential midfield signings.

Further, the Morocco midfielder has been seemingly waiting for the Red Devils to launch a formal move all summer, having rejected approaches from West Ham and Saudi Arabia in the process.

Another party – as important as United and Amrabat – in the loop, Fiorentina, have also been waiting to conclude this saga, as their recruitment plans during the dying embers of the window partly depend on his future.

Italian newspaper Il Tirreno says Viola chief, Rocco Commisso, will pounce on the right opportunity but “almost everything” revolves around the ex Feyenoord midfielder , who should’ve ideally left at the beginning of the summer.

However, United remain on the sidelines and continue to monitor the Morocco international. It’s suggested the Premier League giants will “almost certainly” make an attempt to sign the 27-year-old. The delay in their bid (possibly until the last few hours of the Deadline day) could be due to their attempt to lower Fiorentina’s asking price.

The newspaper adds that such a move is “destined to fail” as Amrabat, despite entering the final 12 months of his contract, will only be allowed to leave if their demands are satisfied. United, or any other suitor, would’ve to reach the 30 million euros (£25.6m) mark to make the transfer happen.

In the event the dynamic defensive midfielder departs, the Serie A club could consider signing Corinthians star Fausto Vera as his replacement. If not, the birthday boy will partner former Liverpool midfielder Arthur in midfield for Florence based side this season.
