Fred has confirmed his departure from Manchester United by sending a heartfelt farewell message to supporters.

The midfielder made just 12 league starts last season and with just a year left on his contract at Old Trafford, the club accepted an offer of €15million (£12.93m) from Fenerbahce and the transfer is set to be completed imminently.

United will receive €10m up front with €5m in add-ons for Fred and he flew to Istanbul on Saturday morning for his medical.

Fred signed for United from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2018 in a £52m deal and he’s spent five years in Manchester. He won just one trophy, the Carabao Cup last season, during his stay and his last appearance was in the FA Cup final.

The player wrote on social media: “Thanks for everything, Manchester United Football Club.

“Today ends one of the most beautiful stages of my career. I lived the dream of wearing the shirt of one of the biggest clubs in the world. Going through ups and downs, I leave with the conviction that I always gave my best during all training sessions and games.

“It was five years of a true dream for me and my family. I will be forever grateful for the opportunity. Forever a Red.”

Sources at United say Fred will depart ‘with appreciation and respect for his big contribution to the team over the last five years’.

He made over 200 appearances for United and he contributed 14 goals and 19 assists.
