Arsenal will solve a major issue in Mikel Arteta’s squad if they can get a £40m deal over the line.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta can solve a glaring problem in his squad by signing Ajax star Mohammed Kudus. The need for a back-up player to Bukayo Saka is evident and the Ghana international could be the answer.

Arsenal have already spent over £200million this summer on three new signings. Kai Havertz was the first through the door, followed by Jurrien Timber and Declan Rice.

Focus currently is on shifting some unwanted players out of the squad and raising further funds. But Arteta clearly isn’t done yet when it comes to incomings.

He wants to sign a goalkeeper to provide competition for Aaron Ramsdale. His prime target is David Raya but spending £40m on a player likely to be a No 2 seems steep.

Signing a player to provide support to Saka should be more of a priority. Kudus is also valued at £40m but could prove to be a priceless addition to the squad.

Saka has continued to establish himself as one of the brightest young talents in European football. It is hard to fathom he does not turn 22 until September.
