Arsenal are eager to agree on a deal for Djibril Sow, who also agreed to join Lazio in a €15 million deal from Eintracht

According to Calcio Mercato, Arsenal are looking to hijack Lazio’s deal for midfielder Djibril Sow. The Swiss international had an agreement to sign for the Italian giants, but late interest from the Gunners may have turned his head towards London.

Arsenal have already splashed over €200 million in this window on three first-team players, but they may continue to sign more stars. Mikel Arteta has not given the impression of concluding their business, as they could continue strengthening the squad.

As things stand, Arsenal’s squad may already have 29-30 players, which does not seem healthy. Players like Rob Holding, Folarin Balogun, Sambi Lokonga and Kieran Tierney could leave before the window shuts. Other fringe stars may also depart, but everything will depend on the offers they receive.

Meanwhile, fans’ concern’s growing that Arteta may not have sufficiently replaced Granit Xhaka in the side. For weeks, many considered Kai Havertz as this player. But the German remains a forward player and is ready to complement their attacking setup.

Hence, there are questions on whether Arteta would bring in a new midfielder before the window closes. There were links to Romeo Lavia, but that has cooled down after Arsenal reportedly decided to keep Thomas Partey. Despite that, there’s still an Xhaka-shaped hole to address, and the Gunners may have found a solution.

Despite links with a move for Moises Caicedo, Arteta has chosen to compartmentalise his resources. Mohammed Kudus also remains linked, and the Ghanaian could slot into that vacant midfield role.

Goalkeeper David Raya was also linked on Sunday, and now there were reports of Arsenal hijacking a move for Djibril Sow. The Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder is on the verge of departing, and Lazio had an agreement worth €15 million to sign the 26-year-old.

With Sow also giving his go-ahead to join Maurizio Sarri’s side, the late interest from Arsenal have turned his head. Now there are doubts about whether the 26-year-old Bundesliga ace wants to resume a move to Lazio.

As things stand, Arsenal are the favourite to sign the Swiss midfielder and could pay a similar fee to what Lazio agreed with Frankfurt. Whether the Gunners successfully hijack this move remains the question.

Sow remains a high-quality target that would add considerable depth to this Arsenal side. Arteta does not have a shortage of midfielders. Yet, the 26-year-old Bundesliga ace could become a solid addition to this side returning to the Champions League next season.
