Many terrorists have been killed in renewed offensive launched by air and ground troops on the frontline of the battle against insurgency.

More than 200 Boko Haram terrorists and five top Commanders of the sect were killed on the fringes of Sambisa Forest, Borno State, during a massive onslaught by the Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK).

In Shehuri, a Borno village, at least 70 Boko Haram fighters are alleged to have drowned while attempting to flee.

Gaizuwa, Gabchari, Sheruri, Mantari, and Mallum Masari are villages in the Bama Local Government Area of Borno State that were the focus of Operation Hadin Kai, an intelligence-led aerial and ground coordinated operation that was launched on September 1, 2022. This operation included the Air Task Force, troops from the 199 Special Forces Battalion, and members of the 222 Battalion.

An early damage assessment confirmed the successful operation resulted in the elimination of high-ranking commanders, including Abou Hauwa, (Munzir) Amir Shettima, Akura Buri(Nakif), Abou Zainab, and Abou Idris and their fighters, according to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency Expert and Security Analyst in the Lake Chad.

According to sources, during the raid, ground troops stormed a terrorist hideout in Gafchari. There, they engaged the terrorists in a gunfight, which resulted in the deaths of over 30 fighters while others managed to flee with bullet wounds.

According to the sources, the Aiforce Task force (ATF) delegated two Super Tucano jets to execute air interdiction missions against the militants in another coordination with the ground troops, which led to the neutralization of further fighters.

He said that when the combat aircraft hit another place with fighters stationed there to set up an ambush against ground troops, “Similar strikes were also carried out at Sheruri.”

63 of the terrorists’ fighters and foot soldiers were also killed, along with two terrorist commanders, Akura Buri (Nakif) and Abou Hauwa, according to him.

“In another contact with the terrorists during the fierce fighting patrol, the troops succeeded in killing a number of more rebels in the Mantari axis after a two and a half hour-long gunfight.

“In Gazuwa, the military burned two vehicles and Abou Iklilima’s house, which served as an insurgent leader’s hideaway. Other improvised tents and terrorists’ assets were also destroyed, he claimed.

He claims that only a small number of the terrorists who managed to escape the military operations on September 2 went back to retrieve the bodies of their fallen fighters at Sheruri and Gabchari.

He continued by saying that among the fighters that perished in the river in Gabchari, more than 30 bodies could be recovered.

“In Gaizuwa, nine additional dead with gunshot wounds were discovered, including the bodies of two Boko Haram commanders, Abou Zainab and Abou Idris.

The military authorities acting on the intelligence deployed the Super Tucano to the spot, killing an indeterminate number of them while they were about to conduct mass burial for their Mujahedeens.

Following the airstrike, it was discovered that chaos had broken out as the last few surviving terrorists sought refuge under nearby trees before fleeing.

“The week-long sustained operations that were carried out concurrently in various areas within the North East Theartre of Sambisa Forest by the troops of Operation Hadin Kai has utterly destroyed the rebels’ capabilities,” he said.
