Information reaching our news desk has it that the Federal Government of Nigeria might have sacked the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Godwin Emefiele.
Meanwhile, the CBN spokesman has said he is not aware whether Godwin Emefiele has been sacked or not. So, has CBN Governor been sacked? Read till the end to know the truth about the whole thing.
Has CBN Governor, Emefiele Sacked?
While responding to questions from newsmen in Abuja, the CBN’s spokesman, Osita Nwanisobi said he read the report of Emefiele purported sack in some media like everyone else.
He said;
“I also heard the same way you heard it. Honestly, to me I’m not aware of that development”.
Other Central Bank of Nigeria staff also claimed that they are not aware of Emefiele’s sack as widely reported on media.
CBN Governor Travelled, Not Sacked
Meanwhile, a CBN staff disclosed to media that “the CBN Governor left to attend the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland immediately after the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) briefing”.
Social media platforms were saturated with the sack news of the CBN Governor on Wednesday morning, and it keeps trending till now.
But after contacting the CBN and Presidency where the purported sacked would have come from, they all denied knowledge of the sack. So, if Emefiele is sacked, who sacked him? Why is everyone both from CBN or presidential Villa not have knowledge of the development?
Why CBN Governor would have been sacked
Recall that the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele has purchased N100 million APC presidential form to run for the 2023 presidential election. And many keep asking ‘where did he get such money?’. This must have angered President Muhammadu Buhari to sack him. Buhari has also asked his Ministers who declared interest in running for president in 2023 to resign.
