Journalist Nizaar Kinsella has now predicted one Chelsea player will now leave the club in an upcoming transfer window.

He told the ‘London is Blue’ podcast that he believes the player is likely frustrated at his lack of game time this season.

Despite a very impressive pre-season campaign in the United States, opportunities have not been too obvious for Maatsen to break into the side this season.

His appearances had mostly been kept to EFL Cup matches, but now that competition is approaching crunch time the first teamers are beginning to become regulars in the side there too.

Appearances in his natural left-back position have been limited after a resurgence in form from Marc Cucurella, as well as the presence of Levi Colwill.

Kinsella has now predicted that the Dutchman is going to be on his way out in the coming months.

Maatsen tipped to leave
He said: “Ian Maatsen is the other one you’re looking at and wondering what’s happening there. He’s in a similar situation to Conor Gallagher but the difference is, he’s not playing enough. You can imagine he’s not as happy.

“There’s still going to be a lot of interest in him. I think that Maatsen may leave Chelsea in the next six months to a year. That’s not controversial to say.

“I think though that Poch leaves the door open for all his players, so Maatsen will keep trying for Chelsea and keep trying to prove that he’s worth a contract and not just an FFP fix problem.”

Maatsen admitted recently that he was still in touch with Vincent Kompany, after his successful loan spell there last season.

They had a bid accepted for him on deadline day in the summer, however he turned down the move in favour of fighting for his place at Stamford Bridge.
