Chelsea central defender Thiago Silva has taken to Twitter to express his disappointment that he is not playing in the UEFA Champions League this season.

The new season of the UEFA Champions League started today, but Chelsea are not in it.

The former European champions did not finish in the top four of the Premier League table last season.

In fact, Chelsea are not in any European competitions this season.

The Blues’ Premier League rivals Newcastle United are in UEFA Champions League action today.

Newcastle are facing AC Milan at San Siro.

And it seems that the £110,000-a-week (Spotrac) Thiago Silva is really missing the UEFA Champions League, as you can see from his tweet below.

Thiago Silva is used to playing in the UEFA Champions League year after year.

The Brazilian has played in Europe’s premier club competition with AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea.

The 38-year-old Brazil international centre-back reached the final of the UEFA Champions League with PSG in 2019-20 and won the competition with Chelsea in 2020-21.

Chelsea will be determined to get back into the UEFA Champions League.

The Blues were dire in the Premier League last season, and under manager Mauricio Pochettino this campaign, they will be keen on at least finishing in the top four of the standings.

Chelsea, though, have to do much better than how they are performing right now.

The London club are as low as 14th in the Premier League table at the moment with five points from five matches.

Chelsea are four points above the relegation zone and eight points behind London rivals and fourth-placed Arsenal.
