Galatasaray have contacted Arsenal about signing Ghana international midfielder Thomas Partey before the summer transfer window closes, according to Turkey outlet Takvim.

The Turkish Super Lig club have offered the Gunners £8.5 million to get a deal done, but the Gunners club want £12m.

Gala vice-chairman Erden Timur is in talks with Arsenal as they are desperate to strengthen their midfield and hope to convince Mikel Arteta to part with Partey.

The 30-year-old was regularly linked with an Arsenal exit earlier in the transfer window, with clubs from the Saudi Pro League and Juventus reportedly keen.

The arrival of Declan Rice was tipped to spell the end of his time with the Gunners, but Partey has remained a key player for Arsenal.

He featured against Manchester City in the Community Shield and played 90 minutes at right-back against Nottingham Forest on the opening weekend of the new Premier League season.

The former Atletico Madrid star has two more years left on his contract, and while this summer represents the best time to sell him, it is unclear whether the Gunners will sanction a move.

Partey will struggle to start regularly in midfield this season, but the injury to Jurrien Timber could see him get more playing time at right-back.

However, Arteta has other options more suitable for the position in Ben White, Takehiro Tomiyasu and 18-year-old Reuell Walters, who impressed in a cameo against Nuremberg during pre-season.
