Southampton No.45 Romeo Lavia now looks set to reject a move to Chelsea this summer in favour of joining Arsenal.

That is according to Football Transfers.

So, what is the latest on Romeo Lavia? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, it was the Guardian who revealed that Mauricio Pochettino is keen to have the Belgium international at Stamford Bridge.

Now – however – Chelsea look set to miss out on Lavia.

Football Transfers believe the 19-year-old has decided to join Arsenal, due to the fact Mikel Arteta’s side are competing in the Champions League next season.

The Spaniard’s project at the Emirates Stadium, which has placed a strong emphasis on developing young talent, is also mentioned as a factor behind Lavia’s decision.

Football Transfers add that Arsenal can also offer the teenager a better salary package than Chelsea this summer.

Lavia currently earns £38,000-a-week at Southampton.

The update comes after Santi Aouna of Foot Mercato claimed that Chelsea have already offered Lavia a contract.

However – if Football Transfers are to be trusted – the Southampton maestro is going to reject it.

Chelsea have time to convince Lavia not to join Arsenal

While Lavia himself is keen to join Arsenal, the Gunners are still yet to agree a fee with Southampton.

In fact, the north Londoners haven’t even made an opening bid, with the Saints holding out for a sum of £50m.

Therefore, Chelsea have a bit of time to convince Lavia why a move to Stamford Bridge would be best for him this summer – perhaps Pochettino can enlist the help of Eden Hazard.

It was recently said that Lavia asked the Chelsea legend about a move to Stamford Bridge before they met up at the World Cup – according to the Express – and was encouraged to join, so he clearly values his fellow countryman’s opinion.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as anything could happen this summer.
