Arsenal have completed their first signing of the summer transfer window by acquiring the services of Kai Havertz.

Following several weeks of negotiations, Havertz joins Arsenal in a deal worth £65 million following his exit from Chelsea where he still had two years left to run on his contract.

The 24-year-old was pleased to have secured a move to north London and is now looking forward to enjoying a successful spell with his new employers.

“It is super exciting for me to be joining this amazing club and to be part of the Arsenal family,” Havertz told Arsenal’s official website.

“This club has such a big history, and I hope we can achieve lots of things. The mentality in the Arsenal squad is very high and you can feel that. That was one of the reasons why it has been so hard to play against Arsenal recently.

“The aim is to win trophies and I am going to give everything to do that for the supporters and everyone at the club. I’m now looking forward to meeting all the players and the staff when we come back for pre-season.”

Having successfully completed a deal for Havertz, Arsenal are expected to complete two more additions in the coming days with Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber closing in on a move to the Emirates.

Fending off competition from Manchester City, Arsenal have agreed a £105m fee with West Ham United to land Declan Rice in what is set to be a transfer record for a British player, while the Gunners are in advanced negotiations with Eredivisie giants Ajax over a deal for Timber after their opening bid was rejected.

Mikel Arteta’s men are looking to conduct as much transfer business as possible before they report to training for pre-season duty which commences next month.
