JAMB Calls For Increment In Registration Fees

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has called for an increase in the registration fees, which were reduced from N5,000 to N3,500.

The Registrar of JAMBIshaq Oloyede, made this call in Abuja on Wednesday at the public hearing on the proposed 2023-2025 Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper put up by the committee. He urged the members of the House of Representative Committee on Finance to accept the organization’s request to have financial autonomy by removing it from the list of Ministries, Departments and agencies in the annual budget of the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Ishaq Oloyede acknowledged that there are some conditions the JAMB body must meet before it can be removed from the annual budget of the Federal Government. He said that one of the conditions is that the organization should be given the permission to upwardly review the examination fees paid by applicants. He further said that the organization in 2017 did a downward review after remitting N7.5 billion revenue.

Responding to his request, the committee’s Deputy Chairman, Saidu Abdulahi, made it clear that the lawmakers were concerned about the impact of his proposal on the disposable income of the country, Nigeria.
