Asari Dokubo

Mujahid Asari-Dokubo, a former Niger Delta militant leader has said that he has “never eaten government money”.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Dokubo is a major political figure of the Ijaw ethnic group in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria and a Biafra separatist. He was president of the Ijaw Youth Council for a time beginning in 2001 and later founded the Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force which would become one of the most prominent armed groups operating in the Niger Delta region. He holds populist views and an anti-government stance that have made him a folk hero amongst certain members of the local population.

“I have never eaten government money.

“And everybody knows that I am one of the most persecuted people in Nigeria up to the Supreme Court. And no blemish was found on me. For two years running, the government of Nigeria persecuted me,” Dokubo said in a recent Facebook Live, monitored by this newspaper.
