An Igbo Man Can’t Become President No Matter How Popular He Is Since We Can’t Do It Alone – Orji Kalu

The Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has stated that an Igbo man cannot become President of Nigeria if the South-East region fails to work with Nigerians from other regions. He said this today at the Senate House and according to him, he said Presidency is not a regional issue and that when he asked political parties to zone presidency to the South-East but did not, he had to withdraw from the race.

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu said he does not have any problem with an Igbo man being the president, and that no matter how popular someone from South-East region is, presidency will not come to the region if his people fail to carry others along.

He called on his people not to make presidency a regional issue and that when one is elected, he becomes the president of Nigeria and not Igbo land.

In his words, he said: “…Presidency is not a regional issue. I asked the political parties to zone presidency to South-East. When they didn’t do that, I had to withdraw. I have no problem with Igbo man being president. But we have to do it with other Nigerians. If we don’t do it with other Nigerians, it is not going to work, no matter how popular you are. It is president of Nigeria not president of Igbo land.”

What is your take on this?
