BREAKING NEWS: Fabrizio Romano reports that Chelsea has made a decision to pull the trigger in the signing of Nigerian international Osimhen. Reports from Italian media says the Nigeria international is ready to push for a deal. Osimhen is ready to move and the club is targeting a spectacular transfer.

This would be one of the greatest signing for Chelsea in years.

In a tried and true classic PR move from footballing brains, an horrendous result and performance has prompted a juicy little transfer story to appear in the papers the following business day — though in this case the story is rather boring in the sense that it’s only re-stating the obvious, the expected, and the already frequently stated before.

Specifically, the Telegraph are claiming an “exclusive” in naming Victor Osimhen as Chelsea’s “primary target” for the January transfer window, adding the player is “expected to be open to a move”. In case you haven’t heard the name, good morning to you after that four-year nap.

Also expected: an eye-watering transfer fee in the nine-figures — are we set to break, or at least come very close to breaking our transfer record (and thus the Premier League record) for the third window running?

And also expected, though not specifically stated: Napoli making it not easy for anyone to acquire the soon-to-be 25-year-old striker, even if he will have just 18 months left on his current contract and possibly not enjoying the best relationship with the powers that be there.

Is a 100-million-man up top what we need to fix things? Probably not, and certainly not in any immediate fashion — even if better or more consistent chance-conversion would be very helpful — but we could maybe at least hope that he would work out better than the last one…
