Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella has now taken to social media to apologise to Raheem Sterling for not setting him up for a goal last night.

He commented on the England international’s Instagram page to publicly apologise for not setting up an easy goal that would have put the Blues ahead against Tottenham.

Cucurella was a half-time introduction for Levi Colwill, who had seemingly lost his head moments before the break in a fiery London derby.

Chelsea eventually came out 4-1 winners away from home against the only remaining unbeaten side in the league, however the scoreline barely tells half of the story.

The Blues were playing against nine men for the majority of the second half, however having real trouble breaking down a unique high line approach from Spurs.

One of their best chances came when Cucurella found himself clean through on goal, with Sterling for company as they bared down on goal.

Cucurella apologises to Sterling

The Spaniard didn’t make the decision to play his teammate in, instead seeing a shot charged down as Chelsea were frustrated again.

The Blues eventually broke through after 75 minutes. Nicolas Jackson, who had struggled throughout the game, scored his first of what was eventually three as they finally put the game to bed.

After the game, Cucurella took to Instagram to apologise for not making things a bit easier moments earlier.

On Sterling’s post, he said: “Sorry bro.”

While moments like that will be forgotten in the long run when looking back at the result, there will still be concerns for Mauricio Pochettino on what he saw from his side.

Nevertheless, it should not be overlooked that they have picked up a big win against a big rival away from home, as they prepare to face Manchester City at the weekend.
