BREAKING NEWS: ‘Not Bukayo Saka,’ I’m afraid…He is every Defender’s worst fear. Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino makes an open statement about the Premier League fixture ahead of his team’s match against Arsenal.

Chelsea star Cole Palmer may be match fit right now despite big concerns about his fitness.

That is according to well-respected journalist Simon Phillips.

Cole Palmer, 21, has been away with England’s Under-21s side across the international break.

He captained the Young Lions in a 9-1 victory against Serbia last week, but the dead leg he picked up during that game meant he missed yesterday’s 3-2 defeat to Ukraine.

England’s U21s boss Lee Carsley confirmed via The Evening Standard that Palmer returned to Chelsea straight away because of his injury worry.

Simon Phillips reported via his Substack this afternoon that Palmer may have actually been available to play for England’s U21s last night in their defeat to Ukraine. Chelsea didn’t want to take the risk with their youngster’s fitness, though.

It certainly sounds like the left-footed attacker may be fine to play when the Blues host Arsenal this Saturday in the Premier League.

Phillips said: “I heard that England U21s were quite keen to select Cole Palmer again last night, but Chelsea called him back. He might have been OK to play, but Chelsea pulled him out as a precaution and they wanted to make sure they give him every chance to be OK for our squad at the weekend.”
