Chelsea are already on very good terms with the agent of Brentford striker Ivan Toney amid potential interest.

That is according to a report from TEAMtalk.

They explain that Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino is now heavily involved in the club’s recruitment policy.

It is understood that the Blues head coach has identified Ivan Toney, 27, as a player he wants to work with at Stamford Bridge. In fact, Chelsea and Arsenal have both started their own attempts to sign the Brentford centre-forward in January.

The report adds that Chelsea boast a “very good relationship” with agency CAA Stellar. Super-agent Jonathan Barnett recently signed Toney to his agency CAA this summer.

TEAMtalk’s report mentions that Brentford have given their approval to sell Toney in the next transfer window, but they could demand a package worth up to £70million in total.

It leaves Chelsea and Arsenal as the frontrunners to sign the talented 27-year-old attacker.

He’s not playing any football in the first half of this season while he serves a suspension for breaching betting regulations, but he’s now at least back participating in training at Brentford.

Described as “remarkable” by Brentford manager Thomas Frank (BBC), Toney ticks so many boxes you could want in a Premier League frontman.

He’s scored 32 goals in 66 Premier League appearances in Brentford colours, so it’s no real surprise a big club is ready to take a chance on him.

Chelsea are prepared to break that rule by signing a player in their mid-20s, but let’s wait and see if they can beat Arsenal to his signature.

In the meantime, Armando Broja and Nicolas Jackson are two fit strikers at Stamford Bridge trying to prove that the Blues don’t need to spend big on a new attacker.
