Kai Havertz played his first game since joining Arsenal from Chelsea for £65 million and fans were left uninspired by his performance.

Havertz joined Arsenal from Premier League rivals Chelsea last month for around £65million and despite the initial skepticism, fans were eager to see how he would fit into Arteta’s system.

The 24-year-old was introduced as a second-half substitute in Thursday night’s 1-1 draw against German second-division side Nurnberg and he was utilised on the left side of a midfield three.

Fans were left disappointed with his overall performance as he repeatedly vacated his position to drift wide and had some loose touches, failing to make any noticeable impact in his first outing.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta spoke after the game about Havertz needing time to adapt and also the need for patience to figure out his best role on the team.

“We will see. We have to see how he adapts and obviously get to know each other and build relationships.

“Football is about that and time will tell where he fits in best.”
