Journalist Charles Watts has said that Ajax defender Jurrien Timber is very excited at the prospect of playing for Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.

The well-known and well-respected journalist has told TEAMtalk that sources close to Jurrien Timber have told him that the Ajax and Netherlands international defender is “so excited about Arsenal”.

Watts has added that the 22-year-old, who can operate as a central defender or as a right-back, wanted to move to only and only Arsenal this summer.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported that Timber has already completed a medical at Arsenal.

The Mirror have claimed that the Gunners will pay Ajax an initial transfer fee of £40 million for the 22-year-old.

Jurrien Timber excited at prospect of joining Arsenal

Watts said: “From what I understand from people who were pretty close to him, he is so excited about Arsenal.

It’s always only been Arsenal for him this summer. It’s just been a case of the clubs agreeing the fee and Ajax have held out for as much as they can get. Everyone’s happy with the deal.

“Arsenal are getting a very, very exciting player in Timber who potentially could have as big of an impact on them this coming season as Zinchenko had last season.”

In our opinion, Jurrien Timber is one of the best young defenders around, and that he is so keen on a move to Arsenal is very encouraging for the Emirates Stadium faithful.

Now, we know that Arsenal have a very good defence.

William Saliba and Gabriel were brilliant at centre-back, and Ben White was a sensation at right-back despite being a central defender by trade.

Timber will be well aware of the competition that he will face to get into the Arsenal starting lineup.

Yes, he is very keen on a move to Mikel Arteta’s side.

That shows the mentality that Timber has.
